Gaming and Grazing / Re: Backwards Compat Questions

Don't care about the bells'n'whistles, I just want to play me some gamez :P  Pity that the list is so long, it'll take me forever to do this, there's upwards of 300 games here...

Hm ... from what I can tell, there's only one Vita exclusive I even remotely care about (Gravity Rush or w/e), and that everything on my list so far for the PS1/PS2 is on that list for the PS3... problem there becomes finding a PS3 with that support.  XBox ... is still kinda lame IMO but at least it seems to be covered well (there's just so few good exclusives on a console from a company that makes PCs anyways).

EDIT: So Amazon's prices are implying that it may be cheaper to get a PS2 and a recent PS3 instead of looking for a compatible PS3.  Thoughts?

Gaming and Grazing / Backwards Compat Questions

Oh hey look, Minus isn't dead yet.  Yay.

Anyways ... instead of doing any, yanno, competition, I've been looking at, let's just say my gaming todo list.  Got a job, moved states, now have my own place where my "I hate video games" mother isn't here to tell me what to spend my money on.  Time to work on expanding my collection to stuff other than PC and Wii.

Thing is, there's a lot of old games on this list, and it's hard to tell what systems are backwards compatible with other systems.  Ideally, I'd like to do this as efficiently as possible, by investing in as few systems as possible.

I think I'm pretty well covered with how the Nintendo consoles work with backwards compatibility; there's a grand total of one game in that list that isn't Wii, GC or on the Virtual Console (frigging DK64).

How do the Nintendo handhelds cover backwards compatibility?  There are games as old as the original Game Boy that I'd like to try to find.  I'm aware that the GBA can play GB/GBC games, and that the DS has some degree of GBA compatibility?  And what about the 3DS?

I've heard that while PS2 and PS3 can generally play all PS1 games, but that only certain PS3s can play PS2 games (ones with 4 USB ports).  Does that mean those PS3s are good for all PS2 games or only a selection?  And do PSP games work on the Vita?

I don't think I have much of a question with the XBox/360 ... there are only a couple games on the former that I can't get with Steam anyways.  Any help or comments are appreciated, thanks.

P.S. I'm trying to avoid emulators if I can ... those of you who remember me when I was more active here already know this.  I'm okay with using an emulator for something I own legally, but not for something I don't own myself.

So it's 2012 and now I am chairing the having a girlfriend club ahaha
Not sure your hair counts as a separate entity, let alone one that's dateable...
Otherwise, though, I'm expecting Ep2, another 3D Sonic game later in the year (multiplatform, including a 3DS version, cross between 2D and 3D like we've been getting lately, this time though it'll be ... a straight-up time travel plot, with stages such as prehistoria, ancient temple, medieval, wild west, etc) and probably another spinoff (fingers crossed for an actual Mario vs Sonic platformer, but doubtful).  Also I might actually resume competing at some point once I get a graphics card that can handle Generations at full speed.

Heads up, Steam just started pre-purchasing for Sonic Generations.  Pre-order bonus is free copies of S3K and S3D.

EDIT: Since when is a Sonic game considered "Strategy" and "Casual"???  I can kinda-sorta understand strategy in Colors, but ... what??

We do know that Sega has been teasing a major link to Sonic CD, of all things.  I remember hearing it hinted somewhere that part of the "plot" (what plot?) of Ep2 concerns the aftermath of the whole time mixup and what happened to Eggman as a result.

Dunno about you guys ... but I don't think I was expecting that.  'tis awesome though, and fits with the game a lot more than the ACTUAL Sonic Vs. Silver match...

That was my immediate thought, "how the flip would downloading the game get you to Lost World without Ancient Light?!"  Unless there's a second way into Red Mountain...

I looked for the list out of my own curiosity.  'Tis here (spoiler warning), still only a rumor but it's something.  While I'm slightly disappointed at a couple omissions, the list is ... actually, exactly what I expected.  I'm still standing by the theory that other levels could very easily be added by DLC.  Also, the 3DS version will in theory have a different set of levels; I'm expecting them to go into the Advance and Rush games for that.  Oh, and the boss list couldn't be any more perfect...

hate 2 say i told u so

More like common sense ... I highly doubt there's enough space on disk for every one of the Genesis levels, for example, yet how do you choose which ones to keep?

There had better be some serious DLC in this game ... that, or people hacking it!

Oh, well, look at that.  The gameplay trailer doesn't mention Wii at all.  Good thing I noticed that before getting my hopes too high XD
Also, you just *know* there's going to be firestorms about peoples' favorite levels missing.

Wikkity! / Re: What are YOU planning on getting for Christmas?

Sonic Colors, Epic Mickey, Donkey Kong Country Returns.  That's ... actually pretty much it XD  Already have Kirby Epic Yarn, it's my brother's gift, hush...

Knuckles sounds almost EXACTLY like he did before.  Also, I kinda dislike Shadow's new voice but I sense it'll grow on me when I actually see him using it.  Cream and Omochao are DEFINITE improvements, it gives me hope that Charmy is actually not-annoying this time.
