Title: TSC Marathon 2014
Post by: flying fox on May 05, 2014, 07:33:22 pm
So yeah time this was brought up again. This is to see who is interested in participating, if there’s enough interest then the marathon will go ahead. We’re aiming do this sometime in August, so we'll have about 3 months to organise it. Since the last marathon we’ve had several new Sonic games added, so it would be great to have those in. I have put the games list in here (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zKGJxJhO9cwaV4I7wvbT2CfAcAVam0ueakgmRn4RtFc). If you don’t see the game you want to participate in, then just offer it and I will add it to the list. In your post, state what game(s) you want to speed run, what sort of run, what your estimation is and any donation incentives.

EDIT: Please offer games that are either Sonic or by Sonic Team.

1) Sonic 06 Sonic Story because I'm bad...maybe some side action of SFXT.
2) Team Rose for Sonic Heroes

Estimate: Til I get fucked (>2hrs unless I get ultra fucked)

If ASR(T) multiplayer is done again, I could take part in that.

If ASR(T) multiplayer is done again, I could take part in that.

I'll hop in on this too if it's on steam or Wii U.

offering: Sonic Labyrinth

EDIT:

I would also offer Sonic Colours - Gameland Stages, as it's nice, short, and shows a much different level design from the Egg Shuttle. They're very different.

I'd do Sonic Heroes Chaotix's Story, but no promises how my net will be when we move out of our current house

I MIGHT want to do SADX, but we all know how salty the game makes me... So that's a small possibility. If no one else offers, anyways

Sonic Riders (GCN) - All Stories - 50 minute estimate

Fun game.  Dunno if I should do the run with large skips or what.  It's sorta weird with the pause buffering required (I'm just thinking entertainment value here).  Thoughts?

If ASR(T) multiplayer is done again, I could take part in that.

If we can get enough people then yes it will be done again.

There are at least a few games on this list I could potentially do, but as for games not on the list, SRB2 single player? I personally would play as Tails. Maybe wads for donation incentives? Not sure who'd want to do those though lol

Post by: Otonyshi on May 05, 2014, 07:46:09 pm
I'd be up for Sonic 06 Silver's Story (No MSG or Any%). If there's any interest in ASRT Any% I could do that too (although it would be PC, which is less entertaining due to lack of glitches).

Silver's Story No MSG estimate is 1:15:00
Silver's Story Any% is 20:00
ASRT Any% is 1:40:00
Title: Re: TSC Marathon 2014

For Sonic Heroes I'm willing to do either Team Sonic's story or Team Chaotix's story and for Sonic Colours I can offer an Egg Shuttle run.

Estimates (with plenty room for goofs)
Team Sonic - 1:20:00
Team Chaotix - 1:05:00
Egg Shuttle - 1:10:00

Edit: Oh and the only thing I can think of donation incentive wise is a bad sing-a-long during the credits for Sonic Heroes and perhaps a bid war between the 2 teams.

ASRT is cool but if we do Multiplayer we'll have to go with the majority console like last time. I have PC and 360 so that's ok. I could also do a glitched run of World Tour on the 360, My best time is 1:27 and estimate would be 1:45~ (accounting for certain glitches failing).

I'd also be up for any other multiplayer game, like Puyo.

If I still ran Lost World I could have done that but at this point it's probably best left to someone like Froken or DsS, unless of course you're not just looking for complete speed.

I'll do S3 grand prix like always unless werster does since he's probably more in practice for games in general lol. I'm pretty sure I haven't played at all since the last marathon :(

Shadow the Hedgehog Neutral - (25:00 [because it could crash lol])

Sonic Riders ZG - All Stories (50:00) [Not entirely sure since there aren't many skips implemented into Story Mode]

EDIT: Adding to my list, Sonic R Any% No OOB (Est: 10:25)

What I'm willing to do if the streaming thing works out for me in time

1.) Sonic Generations Single Segment Run(PS3)- 1:10
2.) Sonic Unleashed(Ps3) Single Segment Run glitchless Any % (Estimate (3:15(if done perfectly) - 3:50(if worst))
3.)Sonic and Sega Allstars Racing Transformed (PS3) All Cups

SONIC ADVANCE 1 SONIC (NEEDS TEST RUN)
SONIC ADVANCE 2 SONIC (wtf was my time last time?  should be around there AT MOST)
SONIC ADVANCE 3 NEW GAME+ (IF YOU WANT)
IF NO ONE:
SONIC 2 SONIC/KNUCKLES (I am confident in having a standard run at worst with enough practice and some helpful tips from people if no one can/wants to run this.  I'm sure there's at least someone good around here that would run this though.  JUST IN CASE.)

I'll just borrow my friend's capture stuff for GODLIKE CONSOLE STREAM.

I really wish I could make it, but I would love to see Sonic Unleashed any%, the estimate would be 3:30:00-4:00:00, but it would be cool to see!
Title: Re: TSC Marathon 2014
Post by: flying fox on May 06, 2014, 07:32:32 am
I can offer the following games:

1) Sonic 1 (2013) Tails or Knuckles any% (25:00)
2) Sonic 2 (2013) Tails any% (30:00)
3) Sonic CD Tails any% (25:00)
4) Sonic and the Black Knight any% (45:00)
5) Sonic Chaos Sonic or Tails any% (15:00)
6) Sonic Triple Trouble Sonic or Tails any% (25:00)

Estimates for Sonic 1 (2013), Black Knight, Chaos and Triple Trouble will go down a bit once I have de-rusted. Sonic 1 and 2 (2013) will be character war donations. I'll do a music war donation for Sonic CD. For Sonic Chaos and Sonic Triple Trouble if no one else offers Sonic, I'll do a character war donation for them. If someone does offer then I would like to still do the character war donation with them.

I'd like to take the opportunity to make up for 2012 and stream S3K. I have a high-end computer built, so streaming should be a cinch.

I just need someone to show me what to do.

Just getting set up with some decent (but also free) streaming software. I don't know if the stuff I was using in 2012 is still relevant or not.

I guess it would be a good idea to go ahead and practice from my laptop.

COMBO!

I'd be up for Sonic 2 probably. Depends on the dates.

If SDM is gonna do S3K, please don't use Gens, especially not Gens+. Please....
Title: Re: TSC Marathon 2014
Post by: SB737 on May 06, 2014, 11:02:39 am
I'd be up for:
Sonic 1 (Genesis)
Sonic Pocket Adventure
Sonic Generations (Will be on Xbox so significantly slower than PC and would require a 1:20 time slot)
Sonic 2 (Master system - a race vs flying fox would be pretty entertaining for this)

Games I'll do if no one else volunteers
Sonic 2 (Genesis) - Will happily do this if no one better volunteers (no idea how good Combo is)
Sonic 3&K (As Sonic) - This would take a lot of practice though as Sonic's so inconsistent, if someone else volunteers to do Tails or something like that then count me out for this one
Sonic Colours - Would be more than happy to run this
Sonic 1 Master system
Sonic 3D Blast
Ideally I'll run a max of 5 games, and that's probably pushing it heh.
I'll do a hack too for bonus day, like sonic classic heroes

EDIT: Totally forgot S1GBA
And I'd be up for spinball too

Okay, chill out before I whup out the PC version.

I'll use Fusion just to keep you sedated.

SDM: Well I use OBS which is free and pretty easy to use. I can help you out with that, if this goes ahead.

Something else I should've added earlier, which was I would like to try and get some stuff that hasn't been seen yet, but not necessary. Such as Shadow the Hedgehog hard mode, Sonic 06 Team Attack Amigo and I can't remember if the DLC from Unleashed was done or not.

Use Regen

and boost that PSG baby
Title: Re: TSC Marathon 2014

Since the talk has come up, I should make it known that MainMemory from Sonic Retro put the original music back in the PC version (http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=32918), and beyond that, it's very easy to dress up the MIDIs with soundfonts now that it's not the year 2000 anymore. That link also has another link to the HQ hack that allows for custom soundtracks, so it could go even further. The PC version would actually be a viable option and could be an incentive for soundtrack donations since we can customize it completely with the HQ hack. $20 for replacing Carnival Night with Numa Numa or something, perhaps? $20 for Hard Times Ice Cap? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2OWC5Hosv8) The only thing I'm aware of that doesn't work on PC or Saturn is the horizontal wrap in Marble Garden 2, as the PC and Saturn ports of the game have a different behavior for going over the ceiling that doesn't allow the zip. It actually opens up a nifty trick in Launch Base 2, though, although I believe there's already a horizontal wrap there that negates this advantage.

I do agree with not using Gens, though, especially after our long discussions about emulator accuracy. The PC version would be an official port, but if we're emulating, Regen and Fusion would be the emulators of choice for accuracy and even have better default screen filtering than Gens. They also don't enable the "better" (read: worse) PSG interpretation by default, although I'd think anybody here would be smart enough to disable that.

Something Thorn mentioned to me on IRC, plus I have done so in my post and seen it on other people's posts are donation incentives. If you guys can think of any for the games you're offering then please do so. One last thing, for future reference if you have anything else to add like more games or donation incentives, please make a new post instead of editing your original one. By tonight I will be going through them and updating the game list and I might miss them. Just to be safe :/

Title: Re: TSC Marathon 2014
Post by: Mastakirby on May 06, 2014, 07:43:42 pm
Here is a list of games that I would love to submit for:

Sonic CD 2011: Either any%(21-23 mins.) or Good Future(Safe ETA of 30 mins) is cool with me. I guess as usual JP vs EN soundtracks would be the up for war.

Amy rose in Sonic the Hedgehog(any%): If rom hacks are ok I wouldn't mind submitting this as well. It's funny how changing a few player mechanics can make me fall in love with this hack(25-27 mins).

Vector in Sonic the Hedgehog(any%): Once again wouldn't mind playin' if hacks are cool, used to mess around with this game a lot (Safe ETA of 15 mins).

Sonic Advance(Knux any%): I'm sure there are other's who can do this but here is another I would not mind running (21-23 mins).

Sonic R (Any% no OoB): Another one that I would not mind watching instead of running, donations would obviously be for karaoke(16-17 mins)!

Games that I would rather watch/run if no one else does:

Sonic the Hedgehog 2(any%): I'm not too bad at this so if worst comes to worst I would not mind (Safe ETA of 30 mins).

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG(Sonic no MSG): Ah sonic 06, can't have a sonic-thon w/o it(Safe ETA of 1:15:00)!

Sonic the Hedgehog GG version(any%): Would much rather watch this but I am decent at this(22-24 mins).

Sonic the hedgehog Genesis(any% anniversary): Bottom of the barrel atm, I have yet to implement any of the new strats into a single segment run but I would guess I can easily sub 30...as long as the game doesn't troll me.

One last note......actually 2 notes...three thats it I swear:

First off just as a warning I am expecting the start of the later half of this year to be EXTREMELY hectic for me so depending on what goes down I might not be able to run anything at all, but who know what life has in store.

Numero dos, I would not mind racing ANY of the listed games above. Heck I'll even race Sonic games that I know I will get bodied in, I just love racing that much.

Three, here is a list of pb's including the ones for the games I listed above for the organizer's(https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ArbOE1ucotIBdHRuYlVwdUQtTE4wQWlZWnhhWEtQcWc#gid=0).

...Ok I lied, four I hope that ya'll can make this as fun as this was while I was watching last year. ^.^

Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) - Shadow's Story (No MSG%)
Estimate: 1 Hour
Donation Incentives: Team Attack Amigo (Estimate: 17 - 19 Minutes)
Notes: I might not be able to make the date for this, depending on when it starts, due to the fact I'm leaving for Australia later this year and may have to pack up my 360 some point soon. Along with that, I won't be here in late August for a vacation. That's the issue. Still, I'd like my name put in for this, even if it doesn't seem completely likely.

Title: Re: TSC Marathon 2014

As for S3K, mine will be a 2-hour "style" run as Sonic. It won't necessarily be a TA (Though I will play efficiently), since our plan with S3K is to allow custom tracks to be played on the PC version, based on donation wars. In short, I really liked Thorn's idea.

What you'll more-or-less see ingame is me "dancing to the beat" and aligning jumps, spindashes, turns and the like to be in time with the music.

I'd like to allow time for these tracks to actually play instead of being truncated at :40-1:00.

As for the tracks to be warred upon, players will be able to vote among the Genesis tracks and the PC tracks, plus I've thrown in some hit pop tracks (which happen to fit the theme with their music), some tracks from other Sonic games, as well as Micheal Jackson works, and the two tracks Thorn provided. Here's what I have in mind so far:

Angel Island 1 - "Take Care" Drake ft. Rihanna

Angel Island 2 - "Burn" Ellie Goulding

Hydrocity 1 - "Ain't it Fun" Paramore

Hydrocity 2 - "Pumpin' Blood" NONONO

Marble Garden 1 - "Best Day of My Life" American Authors

Marble Garden 2 - "Am I Wrong" Nico & Vinz

Carnival Night 1 - "Jam" Michael Jackson ft. Heavy D / "Dragostea din tei" (a.k.a. "Numa Numa") O-Zone

Carnival Night 2 - "Birthday" Katy Perry / "Applause" Lady Gaga

Icecap 1 - "Smooth Criminal" Michael Jackson / "Hard Times" The Jetzons (Intentionally want this war to happen, as those still in the dark about the latter song may incite a war upon ignorance, thus causing a major donation spike to cancel out the people voting for MJ)

Icecap 2 - "Le7els" (a.k.a. "Levels") Avicii

Launch Base 1 - "Blow" Ke$ha

Launch Base 2 - "Wrecking Ball" Miley Cyrus

Mushroom Hill 1 - "Sing" Ed Sheeran

Mushroom Hill 2 - "Moves Like Jagger" Maroon 5 ft. Christina Aguilera

Flying Battery 1 - "Mmm Yeah" Austin Mahone ft. Pitbull

Flying Battery 2 - "Sweet Nothing" Calvin Harris

Sandopolis 1 - "Promiscuous" Timbaland ft. Nelly Furtado

Sandopolis 2 - "Dark Horse" Katy Perry

Lava Reef 1 - "Hold on, We're Going Home" Drake

Lava Reef 2 - "La La La" Naughty Boy ft. Sam Smith

Hidden Palace - "All of Me" John Legend

Sky Sanctuary - "Breathtaking Vision" Kanjika (Sky Sanctuary orchestral remix)

Death Egg 1 - "4 Minutes" Madonna ft. Justin Timberlake & Timbaland

Death Egg 2 - "Stronger" Kanye West

The Doomsday - "His World" Zebrahead

Miniboss Theme - "Egg Dragoon Theme"

Boss Theme - "Egg Wyvern Theme" (Sonic Unleashed)

Final Boss Theme - "Big Arms" Cash Cash ft. Jun Senoue (Sonic Generations)

Knuckles Encounter - "Turn Down For What" DJ Snake & Lil Jon

_______________________________________________________________

Of course, feel free to suggest tracks to be voted upon per stage.

I guess I'll put something in for hopes of being in a marathon again;

I can offer:
Sonic Unleashed All-Day stages
-Estimate 50 minutes just for a lot of generosity
-Incentives Eggmanland, Vocal language selection (ENG/JAP)

Sonic Unleashed any%
-Estimate 3 hours, again being generous, I'm known to choke at the most inconvenient of times in this category
-Incentives to probably watch the opening CGI cutscene just for how awesome it is, if not same as above, Vocal language choice (ENG/JAP)
-I'll also be up for a race if Dark uses the same console

Sonic Colors Egg Shuttle
-I'll be up for a race here too
-Estimate the same as others
-Incentives Text language choice?

Just a small update -- I have downloaded and configured the custom music hack Thorn linked -- and it's working out very well.

I was able to fully implement all tracks I listed above (except for Hidden Palace, due to the fact that LR2 and HP share the same track -- so they both get La La La for now.)

Two interesting notes:

Power sneakers totally work with this -- they speed up the tempo of the music files.

The music files can be changed via the config file while the game is running.

One problem: When a 1-up/invincibility is triggered, the stage music resets from the beginning instead of picking up where it left off. I think this has to do with something in the core of the PC version of the game.

im not 100% sure i can, but if im able to (and if my dazzle will work with my tv i have now) i'm gonna join with Generations (360) modern w/skills.

remember, im not sure if i will be able to or not, ill let you know.

(pls this is prolly the only thing im really good at(and even then im still not that good))

Hey guys, you should get on my back at least once a day about Sonic Advance 3.  Because I actually want to do this (especially since I have two months in advance (No pun intended) to practice).

Also I dunno how much time I can dedicate to commentary (Not that I was all that great at it) since I actually work for a living now.  I'll see what I can schedule off though.

Just give me an estimate, what team you're using, any donation incentives and I'll add you to the list. I thought you did very well with commentary last time and it would be great if you can do any at all this year.

might wanna take a look at this http://www.hfc-marathons.co.uk/ (http://www.hfc-marathons.co.uk/) as this doesn't look like ours (well i know it's not ours but take a look anyways)

I am already aware of this, in fact everybody was yesterday.

So I take it everybody is ok doing a cancer charity again?

Fuck cancer.

ACS is a solid option and that's what I've been telling my friends at work anyway.

I could do (if I have time then) Sonic Heroes Team Chaotix with estimate of 1:10:00 (still not good with GCN controller, and probably never will be).

I... don't have anything just yet, but I'll be sure to have something concrete before July.  I would have started derusting earlier, but I've been sick the past few days so I'm just kinda getting back into the groove right now.

I will see if I can get a new game run done though.  It's not really a game that I can go "okay, let's go with X team for the whole game" since there's a few curveballs (Ocean Base, to a lesser extent Chaos Angel) and it's nice to get some variety in.

Stream?!  pls

Also guess this takes me down to only having to run Advance 1/2 unless someone wants to do Advance 1.  I still need to do a run to get an estimate for that.

When I do Sonic Generations in August, I'll say due to me playing on the PS3 (1 hour and 20 minutes) due to loading times. I would play on PC but seaside hill lags for me -___-

Stream practice is definitely gonna happen this month too, but I need to get a bunch of stuff sorted out first.

You got a link to your stream for this Advance 3 practice Taillow?

Woo, so I've been getting practice done but I haven't set up stream attempts yet.  Need to grab my stuff for that, but once I feel I have the first two zones down well enough I'll do a test stream.

For those who don't know it's twitch.tv/taillow, but I haven't done anything yet.  Soon, though.

I hadn't realized this was here.

I'd be willing to run Sonic: Lost World 3DS through Story Mode. As stated in the other thread, I'm still practicing not sucking learning the right paths and what-not. I currently do not have an estimated time of completion but I would imagine about 2 Hours max.

Unrelated, Tailow streaming is the best thing ever.

Hello!

I specifically made a account to ask a question regarding your charity runs,

My name is Joe, and I am a huge Sonic the hedgehog fan.  I became legally blind back in 2012 and playing video games became extremely difficult. (However I still manage to make my way through a Sonic game with much effort) I started my own charity that raises awareness and funds for  individuals with rare disabilities and disease.
It has recently been approved by state government to operate as a charity and soon to be 501c3.

I was wondering if we could work together on one of your Marathons, I would love to work with you guys and will help provide donation incentives.

I thought it would be a fun and unique idea and I love what you guys do and I love Sonic!

If you want to learn more about myself and my charity please visits, www.dreamscapefoundation.com

EDIT : Also please do not hesitate to reach out to ask me any questions about myself and or the charity I would glady answer.

Wow, thanks for taking the time to visit us, Joe!

I'm not exactly sure how everyone else feels, and I'm of course in no position to make the call, but I'm pretty sure most of us who are participating wouldn't mind switching over to your charity, since we didn't have much of a better idea besides ACS.

That said, schedules might be written fairly soon. If you actually do want to take up one of the marathons yourself, you should get in touch with Flying Fox, by sending her a PM (http://www.soniccenter.org/forum/index.php?action=pm) or visiting the chatroom (http://www.soniccenter.org/chat) while she's online.

She may very well see this thread and reply before you get the chance, though. :P

Hello SpinDashMaster!

Thank you for taking the time out to reply!

I am really interested in doing a event like this, and I thought what a better place than the Sonic Community right? (since I love Sonic!)

And since The Sonic Center has had experience with these types of events I wanted to reach out.

Thanks for the tip, I actually PM'd when I posted this so hopefully she reaches out as well.

Question, in the past what kinds of Donation incentives did Sonic Center do? If any.

A cool idea I was thinking that might be fun is, I design a lot of artwork for my charity, when I first did a fundraisers I was able to reach 5K with artwork alone.

I can send 8 X 10 artworks to everyone who donates, that was a idea I had off the top of my head.

Looking forward to work with this community:D

Most of our donation incentives influence aspects of the speedruns, such as what character a runner might use, or if all Special Stages and Chaos Emeralds were to be included in the run.

I think one of the real show-stealers in terms of the donation incentives is the Custom Soundtrack hack we have going for Sonic 3. Players will be able to have donation wars on certain tracks they'd like to hear on each level, such as Michael Jackson's "Jam" on Carnival Night 1.

Not sure how we could weave artwork into the picture, but best to get others in here talking about this before going further.

Those are all really cool ideas!

I like the bidding for the music that seems fun.

For the artwork idea I was thinking of giving people something tangible as well ( if they respond to that of course) like a Sonic themed Poster I can send out for people who donated "X amount or more"

If you go to my website, I am actually holding a poster of sonic I did, as a example.

But that is just a idea from me, If I am able to do this with the Sonic Center I would be willing to use any of my resources to help create donation incentives and rewards.

Hello Jsonicguy. Unfortunately we already discussed what charity to go with this year. Also I wanted to go with a cancer charity again for personal reasons.

Spoken to the majority of people on here and most of them have said either cancer charity or don't mind. So yeah going with cancer charity again.

I usually do a lot of my marathon sorting out on skype, since I have the majority of runners on my contact list. Any decisions that have been reached I do post in here for everyone to see. So yeah I'm very sorry we can't go with your charity this year :(

SDM: I know you were trying to help, but for future reference when it comes to discussing important events, just tell the person to see whoever is in charge and leave it there.

And where in that post did I do anything besides describe what I'm already doing, and insisting that others arrive before discussing further?

We could be a little less uptight around here.

I was merely pointing out that you didn't and also you made him think that we were switching to his charity, when we already agreed on one a few weeks ago.
Title: Re: TSC Marathon 2014

I made no such indication in any direction, other than I personally felt it was a good idea and others might like the idea. It is not my place to tell him "no" as much as it is not my place to tell him "yes."

I'm pretty sure I even emphasized in the verysame sentence that "I'm in no position to make the call" and "I'm not sure how others might feel about this."

That said, I'm sorry if it feels like I generated any sort of grammatical confusion through the overuse of "sure," but morally speaking I don't feel like I did anything wrong.

Hello Flying Fox, thank you for your response. I perfectly understand that it is too late in the process and I completely respect you have chosen the selected charity for personal reasons.

However If you ever want to plan a separate charity event I would love to take part of it and work together with you, so let me know!

And SpinDashMaster made it clear that you called the shots! and we were just discussing some ideas! No need for any confusion:).

G'luck for at TSC 2014:)

Hope everyone has a great day
