Title: Post your voice!
Post by: General Throatstomper on September 18, 2008, 04:51:44 pm
We know everything else about you? Why not what you sound like? I bet you all have weird accents, strange pitches, and generally unusual rhythms with your speech.

Whereas I sound awesome.

I suggest everyone read the same passage so as to establish some uniform standard. How about: "Sometimes, salient truths result in nothing but foolish, quirky enterprises devoid of valuable production; instead, we receive lean, mean gains to compensate for our palpable yearning for private, horrible, Xanadus wild with stagnant decay and insensibly imbued with  the festering fallacies of kingly quaintness. Participation for all, no Gnosticism, this is just measured fun with rarely respectable, though generally garrish, phonetics! Also, the words 'starter', 'plot', 'hole', 'cannon', 'fox', and 'tank' because those other sentences are too beautiful to bastardize". Really a good mix of sounds in these sentences which compliments the greater philosophical points and comedy.

Included here (http://www.yousendit.com/download/bVlBYlJZWlQ4aU4zZUE9PQ) are two voice samples!

(Relatedly, I know nothing about audio compression)

I don't have nearly enough time to record myself saying that stuff, but I do have a video on YouTube of myself talking about my Chaos Emerald. If you are interested in hearing what I sound like, follow the link below. Just note this: My voice sounds a bit higher than it usually does in the video, and I took it at night when I was quite tired, hence the lamp providing light. My speech is kind of blurred and rushed too, but at least you get a general idea what I sound like.

I won't bother with that passage, but between the six parts of the Announcer Chronicles series that's almost 5 hours total, and enough to to hear any sound the passage could try to stress, many times over.

part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3f-4g4kLiM (at this point I was definitely trying to alter my voice for a self-perceived "announcer" role)
part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDfiRDCcus4 (still some remnants of that forced accent, but after this part it pretty much vanishes)
part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KRoe6dYiv0
part 4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKBfpC3cfYM
part 5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifh-CprO9wI (here I invoke my quieter voice to represent a second character, though there have been complaints that it's too hard to hear against the background static and game soundtrack)
part 6: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXAqYp4jE24 (Want a fun way to destroy your voice for a while? Talk nonstop for this long.)

Weird though, usually I sound ridiculously congested. :'D

I sound horrible. <_<
More horrible than I thought.  But I couldn't hit too high a voice without looking stupid to my sister in the other room.

To make up for it, you shall see a face from my household!

Okay, you may need to turn up your speakers a bit to hear me. But yeah, this is nearly the first time my voice has reached the internet. Also Sound Recorder sucks.
Sorry that I sound really damn bored, but it's 10 PM, what do you want me to do? Anyway, I'm going to bed. Appreciate me, or don't appreciate me, I don't care.

This is me reading the first two paragraphs of TSC's Visitor Orientation (http://www.soniccenter.org/siteinfo/orientation) spanish translation. Maybe you are not aware of it, but TSC has been partially (about 10% <_<) translated to castillian spanish. If you want to see the text that I read, just select "EspaƱol" in User Settings and go to said section.

By the way, I emphasize the fact that you have to read the rules before submitting. So it could even be useful in the future to warn spanish-speaking BSers if they don't speak english. xD

Zeupar's welcome (http://s148.photobucket.com/albums/s23/Zeupar/?action=view&current=zeuparspeakingcastillianfromspain.flv).

My comments (because I have no way to add my own at the moment....)
genus - Now I have to attach that voice to my LandGrab rival?  Wow, beating you should be cake now.
PM888 - Sounds about right I think.
SM - Wow.  Just ... wow.  I pictured you to sound, I dunno, kinda like an evil person....  <_<
CutieFox - I never could tell if you were male or female.  After hearing that, I've determined that I'll never know.
SkyL - Haha, wow, THAT'S a nerd voice.  I think it explains a lot.
Quartz - Is your voice usually that high?
Sondow - FAR deeper than I thought it would be.
Bertin - LOL Bertin the Redneck
RPG - Wow, you actually sound like a guy.  I.E. Nothing like I thought you would sound.  Though kinda muffled.  Probably the hair.
Zeupar - Sounds like you could do a seriously good Ricky Martin impression ... do you sing?
Aitamen - You actually sound relatively tame compared to your appearance.

Finally, should I be saddened that I know where RPG's new sig comes from?

I was sort of bored and that was my silent voice...I may put up my louder-like voice soon.

NOT TO MENTION I LIVE IN FLORIDA!
Title: Re: Post your voice!

I'm kinda really happy about this topic... it's now to the point where I feel like I know about 1/2 the active soniccenter crew...

There are, though, enigmas even now.   I think they just stand out more now.

Also, comments on other people:
RPG: A little deeper than I expected, and not nearly as quick and sure of his speech as I though he'd be.
SM: I watched those videos a while back, but between your calsign and how badly you annihilate records, like anti, I expected something along the lines of, say, Shao Khan or Kolimja.
Zeupar: I'm happy I now know how you pronounce your name, and I'm happy to know I've been saying it right all along ^_^
Bertin: heh...

Finally, no you shouldn't.... >_>
Title: Re: Post your voice!
Post by: Taillow on September 19, 2008, 07:08:29 pm
Quartz - Is your voice usually that high?
I guess so <_<

That's my casual/energy voice, though.  However, my more passive voice may be a bit deeper.  Maybe.  Honestly, you never know how you TRULY sound like until you hear yourself from an external source.  Assuming said source recorded well.  Still, I had my voice recorded on two mediums (one I couldn't play on the computer), so... yeah.

Now to listen to the new ones.

EDIT: How did I not imagine RPG with a british accent before?  Despite the fact he's from there >_>

Okay I tried to sound less bored than last time. Not sure if it worked...
Also, when I called Aita generic, I meant he sounded more like I thought he would sound. I don't feel like correcting this over and over, so deal with what I have, and Quartz and Sky please don't hurt me >_>

not sure about Vista, but 3.1-XP all have voice recorder... a program that allows you to record your voice to a .wav, which, while large, can easily be uploaded here (via upload site, if nothing else...)

I'll check my mom's comp tomorrow if you still don't have it...  she runs Vista ^_^

Start button Vista icon -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Sound Recorder

It works fine, that's what I used. Sure, my mic sucked so it was hardly audible, but that's not the program's fault.

So I'd always wanted to do a tutorial on SonED2 for TUSC, but backed out because I was too lazy and didn't care to have the rest of the family wondering why I was talking to the computer screen. They all left the house for an hour today, so I gave a completely unrehearsed, low-quality, can't-pick-a-topic-and-stick-it video tutorial in that time.

So, um, here (http://cid-f9c5b5f57636c3b6.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Sonic%20Modding/Tutorial|_0001.wmv). Big filesize and low res, because Hypercam and WMM are shit.
